Core Curriculum

Summer is flying by and as September nears, I love thinking back about school starting up.  When I taught 1st grade, August was the time of year that was so exciting to get everything ready and a whole new year to plan.  We planned our entire year using the core curriculum, in Utah you can find it at uen.org.

I've been looking to make a similar plan for working with my one-year-old and I found some "pre-kindergarten" guidelines on this website.  I really encourage you to check them out.  In the next few weeks I'll be using those guidelines to help me develop some units/themes for us to study throughout this "school" year.

Why I'm Starting This Blog

I'm coming up on my "year-mark" of being a new mom.  My life has drastically changed and for the better.  I loved teaching 1st grade and I loved my little students when I was teaching in the schools, but now my attention has shifted to my growing family.

I'm watching my daughter as she learns something new every day and I'm realizing that I get to be the "engineer" of my home.  I choose what we do every day (for better or worse) and now that I've had time to settle into my new role of motherhood, I'm ready to begin more of a loosely "planned" program with her.

One of the most important things I learned as an education was to "Have a Plan" and so I've decided to start planning themed units for me and my daughter.  I'll be posting/sharing them on this blog as well as how educating my family changes as they grow older.

Please use whatever materials/ideas/suggestions I post to help your children learn and I'm always open to comments and suggestions!  I'm excited to begin this adventure in "home-schooling" my children (you can check my about me page if you want more info about that).
